Learning Assessment

Dear friends

            Greetings

        I have sent the ppt of last workshop on strengthening systemic capacity on Learning assessment and use of data for improving learning.It is a two year capacity development program. In that workshop a preliminary discussion was held on classical theory and item response theory. Generally it is meant to know the health outcomes of assessment. The item development, item analysis using Item response theory, item bank development etc were discussed in brief. Coming year we will explore, reflect and work more on assessment  for improving students' learning.

Action Research

Today read about Action Research. I would like to share with you all about the characteristics of Action Research. let us reflect on the points and give your feedback.


Action Research is
  a process that improves education in general by incorporating change
  a process involving educators working together to improve their own practices
  persuasive and authoritative, since it is done by teachers for teachers
  collaborative, that is , it is composed of educators talking and working with other educators in empowering relationships
  is participative, since educators are integral members- not disinterested outsiders of the research process
  practical and relevant to classroom teachers, since it allows them direct access to research findings
  developing critical reflection about one’s teaching
  a planned , systematic approach to understand the learning process
  a process that requires us to test our ideas about education
  open minded
  a critical analysis of educational places of work
  acyclical process of planning, acting, developing and reflecting
  • ·         a justification of one’s teaching practices


Action Research is not

  the usual thing that teachers do when thinking about teaching; it is more systematic and more collaborative
  simply problem solving; it involves the specification of a problem, the development of something new and critical reflection on its effectiveness
  done ‘to’ or ‘by’ other people; it is a research done by particular educators on their own work
·         the simple implementation of pre determined answers to educational questions; it explores, discovers and works to find creative solutions to educational problems
·         conclusive, the results of action research are neither right or wrong but rather tentative solutions that are based on observations and other data collection and that require monitoring and evaluation in order to identify the strengths and limitations.
·         a fad; good teaching has always involved the systematic examination of the instructional process and its effect on student learning. Teachers are always looking for ways to improve instructional practices and although teachers seldom have referred to this process of observation, revision and reflection as research, that is exactly what it is.

Critical reflection in Teacher Education



Dear friends

This is the time for preparing ourselves into the next academic courses. As Teacher Educators we have to critically examine and evaluate our own activities regularly  to improve our professional practices.


Critical reflection involves different steps : goal setting for identified weaknesses and strengths, reflective journaling, reflections for implemented or observed lessons, coaching and conferencing process, creating a growth portfolio, and reflective summary of the whole course.

Monitoring of Ujjwal and Utthan

Dear friends

As we know, the remediation programme at Elementary level- Ujjwal and Utthan is going on since reopening of schools- 26th June throughout the state. The base line test has already been completed and the remediation activities are conducted in the schools with the help of Teacher handbooks and student workbooks. In this connection, being DIET faculty, we will observe the classroom process and interact with teachers and students regarding the programme till 4th August.

Flipped classroom

Dear friends


The new session is yet to start. This period is for our preparatory work for the activities of next academic session. As per our discussion, this year at least in one paper in 1st year and one paper in 2nd year, we will try to flip the classroom. For this content analysis is mostly done. During this month's PLC meeting, we will share and modify the content analysis.In the mid August, we will have a 2 days in house orientation  programme on Flipped classroom. I am sending a link on flip classroom model. Please read it and post  your views .write a note and we will discuss in next PLC meeting.

Active Listening

Dear friends

Hope everyone is doing well.The facilitation on elementary school remediation programme ( ESRP) - Ujjwal and Utthan programme for the teachers will be starting tomorrow across the state. The learning camp will be organized from 18th June to 31st July 2018 in all primary and upper primary schools of the State. In the orientation programme of SRG, the self development package includes active listening, developing key competencies, facilitator skill etc.


I am attaching the ppt on Active listening. Please go through it and try to be an active listener. Give your constructive feedback for improvement.

school Internship programme

Dear Friends


After long days I am posting in the blog. In 2017 we have done few good works for our professional development. This year also we have committed to take up few innovative activities. As our school internship programme is going on, apart from teaching, SBA and conduct of action research is mandatory. We have conducted 3 days pre internship orientation with student teachers. It's time to analyze the peer observation schedule and reflection note. This time many of the student teachers are also integrating ICT in their classroom process during internship, which is a good sign. The classroom processes become more interesting. 

I am sending a link of framework and guidelines of conducting School Internship programme in both D.El.Ed and B.Ed by NCTE. Let us read and give suggestions what other things we can do to strengthen internship programme in our DIET.
