I have sent the ppt of last workshop on strengthening systemic capacity on Learning assessment and use of data for improving learning.It is a two year capacity development program. In that workshop a preliminary discussion was held on classical theory and item response theory. Generally it is meant to know the health outcomes of assessment. The item development, item analysis using Item response theory, item bank development etc were discussed in brief. Coming year we will explore, reflect and work more on assessment for improving students' learning.I am sending the link of an article on Assessment : the bridge between teaching and learning. Thank you so much madam for sending a very valuable document on formative assessment. Now in classroom Teaching-learning process more stress is given on formative assessment. It is a valuable tool that enables teachers to provide immediate and on going feedback to improve students learning.

Yes, you are right. Formative assessment is absolutely needed to improve students' learning. The assessment and follow up programm is very important .

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your ideas. In assessment, for item analysis- classical theory and item response theory were used for assessing the difficulty level of the items. We shall discuss in depth in our PLC discussions.

The paper focused on formative assessment.it is the most powerful way of improving learning. the three key process are 1) where the learner is right now, 2) where the learners need to be, 3) how to get there. The new thing I came across in this paper is the five strategies for formative assessment- learning intention, eliciting evidence, feedback, student as learning resource for one another and students owning their own learning. these inputs will help us in both pre-service and school students assessment activities. all are research based so we can implement the idea and study its effectiveness to support the idea.

Thanks for in-depth analysis. Actually in our formative assessment, we know where the learner is and where he/she should go with regard to achieving learning outcome. But the analysis and strategy building and implementing is missing. So, the purpose of formative assessment is not fulfilled.
ReplyDeleteThanks alot madam for the article that mainly focus on formative assessment & its five strategies like learning intention ,eliciting evidance, feedback, students as learning resources for one another and students owning their own learning.Each & every strategy has its importance in formative assessment. At first we have to know the competency level of our students, then will concern about the strategy needed for each individual and lastly how mich effort we have tp gove for their improvement. In my point of view last three strategies are more beneficial than other two. Our objective is to improve learning level of our students so while we are assessing the students we should give feedback to them.when students trust the teacher they accept the feedback & act pn it immediately. Hence feedback is effective as a result improvement seems .Students must transfer their knowledge among themselves. They should share their ideas, for that teacher should guide them .Different teachers find different aspects of classroom formative assessment for their students and the contexts in which they work.They should createin such a learnin. Environment, where students will be able toknow their own potential & have the curiosity to accept the cchallenges. We have to give more important on the sstrategies before doing formative assessment .
