Research Methodology

Dear Friends

Now we are all set to discuss on research methodology in a series of discourse. Though we are guiding our student teachers in conducting Action research, but we have certain doubts which are  to be clarified. So in our coming PLC meeting we will discuss about research methodology in general and action research in particular.
This year we are also planning to conduct an action research on conduct of action research in DIET Khordha basing on our last 2 years experience. Inspite of our efforts, due to some managerial problems, we are not able to guide the student teachers effectively. We have to find out the reasons, the post 2nd year student teachers are requested to give their feedback. So, before the student teachers have started identifying the problem, let us be clear about this.

The student teacher e portfolio is in experimental stage.  as we have developed the content analysis and varieties of resources are identified and used, please document the classroom process for further improvement.

Academic session 2017-18: ICT integration in classroom process

Dear Friends
 Good morning. Happy Teachers' Day in advance.
As you all know from 7th September, 1st year classes  and from 11th September 2nd year classes will start. By the way we have completed the scheme of lesson. The scheme is developed basing on content analysis.Progress register through Padlet is developed. This year the assignment will be done mostly through online. Hope the resources for teaching different content areas have been finalized.
All the documents( situation cards, discussion points,reflective questions, ppt, video relating to content) will be uploaded either in 1st year/ 2nd year  academic what's app group/ blog prior to the class, so that the classroom process will be more interactive.
A student teacher profile is developed. Through Google Doc the student teachers will fill up and upload.

I am sending a link regarding teacher centric classroom process ( FC 4) , which I will  upload on 6th September ( the admission day, after getting their what's app number and mail Id), so that the student teachers can read it and prepare to the class on 11th September. This content is mostly experience related. For this theme, I have prepared a PPT, video recorded a science classroom process ( teacher centric) in Practicing UGUP school, Khordha, and developed a " Charchapatra" and situation cards followed by few reflective questions. Please give your suggestions for improvement.

Pedagogical Content knowledge

Dear friends

We will have next academic session in the second week of September 2017. Now we are exploring different resources and developing our own resources for the classroom transaction.
Padlets :  DIET 1st year Progress register and 2nd year progress register have been developed to update the progress of the lesson.
The scheme of lesson will be uploaded in google drive for your reference.
As you have completed completed content analysis in your respective subjects, please upload it in drive.
I am sending the link of pedagogical content knowledge for science teaching. Now we are conducting series of capacity build up programme for master resource persons in different subjects. Please read the article and reflect on five components of PCK  and relate it with your subject. Promoting active teaching learning

Planning for new academic session

Dear Friends

Hope everything is fine. Since long we have not activated our professional life. summer vacation over, time to concentrate  and plan for improvement of classroom practices before new session starts. Think and suggest the innovation to be carried out in this session. ICT is to be integrated systematically in classroom process both in learning and assessment. We have to work together. Hope you have completed the 1st draft of planning for integrating ICT in your paper/ unit . The resources, strategies must be identified by now.

I am sending a draft proposal to be presented before UNICEF for approval.The activity aims at sharing the best practices in pre service teacher education programme in few TEIs of the State. Please give your constructive suggestions for improvement of the proposal.

Seminar on Best Practices in Pre service Teacher Education Programme
DIET Khordha
In facing up to challenges and impacts of globalization, use of technology, economic transformation, international competition and local development in the new century, teacher education institutions in India have made numerous educational reforms. The role of teachers has become more complex. In addition to teaching in the classroom, teachers are required to take up new responsibilities in school management, curriculum planning, mentoring, professional development, school-based action research projects, and working with parents and community.
How teachers can be prepared to take up these new roles and perform teaching effectively to meet the challenges and expectations from education reforms is crucial to the reform and practice of teacher education Institutions .This begs the question: what kinds of innovation and change should be made in pre-service teacher education to ensure this preparation?
The goal of Pre service teacher education is to equip prospective teachers with the necessary subject knowledge, professional skills and attitudes for effective knowledge delivery to the elementary level students.
Though the teacher education institutions of the State are following the same curriculum but it has been learnt that there is a huge gap in transacting the curriculum. Many institutions are making great efforts to transform the classroom process from teacher centric to student centric constructivist approach integrating ICT but few are still adopting the teacher centric approach. In this backdrop, a two day zonal level academic seminar in different curricular components of Pre service Teacher Education along with cultural inputs is planning to organise in DIET Khordha in the month of November 2017. The student teachers of 10 Teacher Education Institutions will be invited to participate in the seminar along with one faculty.
The objectives of the seminar are
·         to share the different innovative practices in pre service teacher education programme as well as empower the student teachers in few pedagogical strategies and thematic components.
·         To exhibit the cultural talents of student teachers of different institutions and learn from each other.
Participants :
·         The student teachers and faculty of DIET Puri, ETEI Pipili, ETEI Sakhigopal, ETEI Nimapara, ETEI Bhubaneswar, ETEI Bankoi, ETEI Tangi, DIET Nayagarh, DIET Dhenkanal and  DIET Khordha
·         8-10 Student teachers from each institution and one faculty will participate in the seminar.
Resource persons : On each day four resource persons ( experts in different components of teacher education) will be invited to deliver key note address  and chair the academic sessions.
The seminar will be residential in nature.
Tentative Date : 2nd week of November 2017.

Planning for next academic session


Dear Friends,
Hope you all are fine and  relaxing at home during this summer vacation. As you know, this session 2017-18, in our Pre service classroom process we are trying to integrate ICT . For this we have almost finalized the content analysis and the planning for incorporating different resources and tools for ICT integration. Collaboratively we can do this assignment. Best Innovative Practice

Dear Friends

We have created Professional Learning Community in our DIET on 1st August 2016. PLC is a form of professional development in which groups of Teacher Educators ( we all 13 faculty) with shared interests work together with the goals of expanding our  knowledge and improving our skills.
We have conducted 18 PLC meetings till 24th April 2017. Basing on our need, we discussed on different themes like constructivism, integrating ICT in classroom process and shift in assessment procedure etc. We are trying to integrate ICT in pre service classroom process as well as in PLC. The three phases ICT training helped us a lot to explore different ICT tools and the process of using it in the classroom.

With all your support , the idea of creation and activation of PLC in our DIET has got recognition in State level , Along with four other institutions, our DIET got prize for Best innovative practice and stood 1st. Hope we will continue working together to do better in coming days.

Dear Friends
Happy Odia New Year to you all. On 10th April we had conducted 17th PLC interface. Both Mausumi madam and Bina madam presented  elaborately-the first component of Teacher Education series - Action research . The major discussion points were about meaning of action research, action research and teacher educators, action research cycle, and action plan for research, a research report.

Principles of Assessment

Principle 1 - Assessment should be valid
Validity ensures that assessment tasks and associated criteria effectively measure
student attainment of the intended learning outcomes at the appropriate level.
Principle 2 - Assessment should be reliable and consistent
There is a need for assessment to be reliable and this requires clear and consistent
processes for the setting, marking, grading and moderation of assignments.
Principle 3 - Information about assessment should be explicit, accessible and
transparent
Clear, accurate, consistent and timely information on assessment tasks and
procedures should be made available to students, staff and other external assessors
or examiners.
Principle 4 - Assessment should be inclusive and equitable
As far as is possible without compromising academic standards, inclusive and
equitable assessment should ensure that tasks and procedures do not disadvantage
any group or individual.
Principle 5 - Assessment should be an integral part of programme design and
should relate directly to the programme aims and learning outcomes
Assessment tasks should primarily reflect the nature of the discipline or subject but
should also ensure that students have the opportunity to develop a range of generic
skills and capabilities.
Principle 6 - The amount of assessed work should be manageable
The scheduling of assignments and the amount of assessed work required should
provide a reliable and valid profile of achievement without overloading staff or
students.
Principle 7 - Formative and summative assessment should be included in each
programme
Formative and summative assessment should be incorporated into programmes to
ensure that the purposes of assessment are adequately addressed. Many
programmes may also wish to include diagnostic assessment.
Principle 8 - Timely feedback that promotes learning and facilitates
improvement should be an integral part of the assessment process
Students are entitled to feedback on submitted formative assessment tasks, and on
summative tasks, where appropriate. The nature, extent and timing of feedback for
each assessment task should be made clear to students in advance.
Principle 9 - Staff development policy and strategy should include assessment
All those involved in the assessment of students must be competent to undertake
their roles and responsibilities.
